hello all! this is a webshrine about old technology and stuff. i think they are super cool :3. new technology now STINKS (typing this on an industry new computer... UNFORTUNATELY... i was not the one who purchased this.. but if i was i would have totally gotten an older (and less sharp??) computer)
anyways i've divided this web page into sections for your convenience. yay!
more like cds nuts amirite. anyways these things (and their cousins the dvds) are so cool!!!! like!!! they work using light as their main component!!! how cool is that!!
so basically a cd is this flat layered plastic and metal disc that, when burned (not actually burned dont worry!), it gets ingraved with these tiny little pits (and whatever is left over is a land) in such a way that a transition from a pit to a land or vice versa becomes a 1 in code while no change becomes a zero. basically the cd gets engraved with physical stuff that gets read by a laser "eyeball" thingy as zeroes and ones, which gets turned into readable data like music and video and stuff!! yay!!!!! what a wonderful thing. how did we get all this from rocks and sticks?
these are the pits and lands on a cd zoomed in ^_^ source: wikipeepee-a
cd layers (copy and pasting this from wikipedia):
A: A polycarbonate disc layer has the data encoded by using bumps.
B: A shiny layer reflects the laser.
C: A layer of lacquer protects the shiny layer.
D: Artwork is screen printed on the top of the disc.
E: A laser beam is reflected off the CD to a sensor, which converts it into electronic data.
thanks wikipedia!
DELECTABLE SNACK
this concludes the cd section.
why do they make audio and visual technology look so scrumptious?
so basically its a flat disc made out of vinyl (before the 1940s they were made of shellac) that has a bunch of tiny tiny super tiny grooves going in a spiral, that, when spun using a stylus such as a diamond tip that record players have, the microscopic grooves get translated into music :3 how cool is that!!!!!!
